When you live on the central coast of North Carolina known as the Southern Outer Banks or the Crystal Coast, there is often a feeling that the world of entertainment has stopped about 3 hours west in Raleigh. Certainly we have a magnificent local theater group that regularly presents Broadway adaptations and original plays and the Folk Arts Society brings a monthly musical performer to New Bern and Beaufort. The American Music Festival and the Beaufort Music Festival bring top-notch perfomance to our area during the winter months and in a wild weekend of diverse musical styles.
Still there is a nagging feeling that if we just want to go somewhere on a weekend evening, we are probably going to end up at Jack's Waterfront Bar in Morehead City or prowling the Beaufort waterfront for dulcet chords wafting from a restaurant or bar like Cru or the Dockhouse. During the summer you have a good chance of striking pay dirt for a place to hear someone singing and playing good tunes, but fall, winter and spring can feel like an entertainment desert at the beach.
Problem solved folks! Whether you have called Carteret County home for decades or you are a first time tourist, The Morehead Center is ready to rock your world. Consider the lineup for 2012: The Righteous Brothers Tribute, Dr Dennis Swanberg Christian comedy show, Yale University women's a capella choir, Always... Patsy Cline, Sounds of Summer Variety Show, Johnny Winter in concert, Who's Bad - Michael Jackson Tribute, Beach Magic with Bryan and Terry every Thursday in summer, Mike Cross in concert, Man of La Mancha in the fall and a Christmas spectacular starting November 10. Now doesn't that make you want to head to Morehead City for date night?
To check out the offerings any week of the year go to The Morehead Center website at http://www.themoreheadcenter.com and purchase tickets online ($3 extra charge) or by phone at 252-726-1501. Season Tickets are available offering great discounts. You will be pleasantly surprised at what we have going on in little old Morehead City.

Waterfront Home - 1506 Scotts Lndg Morehead City, NC Reduced to $849,100
This 4360 sq ft Morehead City river front home has just been reduced by almost $50,000. Built a little over 3 years ago it has 180 degree plus panoramic Newport river views directly across from the Intra-Coastal waterway. The reverse floor plan with full top and bottom decks gives unlimited space for relaxing and entertaining. The dock is ready for a lift and a boat and the clamming and fishing is wonderful.
This custom home features two full living areas up and down with 2 kitchens, two laundry rooms, an elevator, three heating and cooling zones and full house generator. Our son and his family currently live with us and this floor plan allows each family privacy while enjoying sharing a home. We built it with the thought of having an in-law suite for elderly parents but in this economy multi-generation living of all ages is becoming much more common. This home accommodates two families comfortably.
Although listed as a 3 bedroom with a 3 bedroom septic, the home has two additional rooms on the first floor that can be used as bedroom, study, office or any other specific need for space.
Tile, granite and finished in place oak floors combine with full walls of windows to bring the outdoors in for the owners of this home. The colors are relaxing shades of nature's beauty. A large granite island joins the kitchen with the great room and dining room and ensures that the main living areas on the 2nd floor flow seamlessly. A gas log fireplace and a serving bar with wine cooler complete the features that make this home easy living day-to-day and for entertaining.
All but 3 rooms in this house face the water. The dining room, living room, kitchen, primary bedroom suite and downstairs great room and primary suite all offer huge windows that maximize waterviews from almost anywhere in the house. The primary bedroom offers privacy, deck access and magnificent water views. Waking up to the sunrise every morning is magical! A huge primary bath features a whirlpool tub, glass block, walk-in handicap accessible shower and his and hers sinks with extensive granite and tile. A dressing room with extensive storage and hanging space is complemented by a full wall closet making every hanger in the house happy.
Tucked away on a private road in the Country Club area of Morehead City, the Scotts Landing neighborhood of Morehead City has just 9 homes. There are no covenants but the standard for this small close-knit community is high with well-maintained single family homes of all sizes. The privacy is exceptional for a home that is just minutes to town, hospital, schools, dining, shopping and 10 minutes from the beach, fishing and diving.
This is a one-of-kind waterfront find for the right buyer.

Biggest Giveaway in History for Home Buyers: Homebuyer Tax Credit
It's difficult for a Realtor to believe that not everyone has heard about the historic tax credit being offered to first-time homebuyers and some existing homeowners by the federal government, but sadly it's true. So here is one more word to the wise that NOW is the time to move up, move down or move in.
Interest rates remain at bargain basement levels while Uncle Sam has extended tax credit incentive to include both first time buyers AND some existing homeowners with one big caveat - DO IT NOW while the temperatures are down and the snow is falling.
First time homebuyers can claim a whopping 10% of the purchase price up to $8,000 and existing homeowners who have resided 5 consecutive years out of the last 8 in their home can collect up to $6,500. There are income restriction but they are high enought to keep the vast majority of us in the game. But you have to ACT NOW. Yes your home is worth less than a year ago - so is the new home you chooose. It's the interest rates and tax incentive that are the bellweather for making a move. Your new home must be under contract by April 30 and the closing signed, sealed and registered at the courthouse by July 1, 2010. Get the details by clicking here

Beach Homes Present Exceptional Value
The lure of a beach vacation retreat as a second home or investment property has always been a top interest of families once their primary residences were established and their careers were stable. While 2004 and 2005 saw a meteoric rise in coastal property prices and a similar rise in the number of units being built, the economic collapse of 2008 and 2009 has driven those prices to record lows and given the savvy buyer an almost unlimited choice of properties to choose from for their dream place at the beach.
One example is a 3000 square foot mansion with granite, hardwood floors, elevator and beach access. In 2005 it sold for $800,000. Now it is going into foreclosure at $449,000. A Realtor who is a good negotiator can get this for you in a short sale for even less. How about a 2nd row, 16 bedroom rental beauty with pool that was offered at the peak of the market for $3 million but is now yours for under $900,000?
Perhaps boating and fishing are your dreams. How about an older soundside home on the central NC coast with 2 buildable lots and 4 deepwater docks on the intracoastal waterway close to the Beaufort Inlet and Big Rock fishing grounds that can be had for under $500,000?
Name your heart's desire and a good Realtor who knows the market can find you deals that make foreclosures look expensive. Short sales are the rule and a buyer with money to put down can twist the arm of desperate sellers and lenders to walk away with valuable properties at bargain basement prices.
Lenders are tough on money for second homes. Be prepared to put down anywhere from 20-30% for a good interest rate and have an excellent credit score. If you qualify, the real estate market is your playground so take to the field and enjoy!
